Senior John Wechter posted a perfect 5-0 record in the first event of the year for the No. 11-ranked MSU wrestling team.

Wechter, one of eight Spartans to place in the Eastern Michigan Wrestling Open Nov. 2, defeated MSU junior Mike Keenan 3-2 in the final round to claim the heavyweight title.

Senior Karl Nadolsky earned runner up in the 149-pound division after falling 4-2 in the championship bout to Jake Percival of Ohio. Nadolsky is currently ranked ninth in the nation.

The team will host its next meet, the MSU Open, at Jenison Field House Saturday and Sunday.
