WEB ONLY: RHA chooses new logo

November 22, 2002

With the help of an MSU student, the Residence Halls Association's quest for a new logo ended Wednesday at its weekly meeting.

The general assembly voted to use chemistry junior Carrie Thomas' design for RHA's new logo. Thomas will receive a $200 Meridian Mall gift certificate for her work.

"I think it's great, I'm really excited," Thomas said. "I didn't actually think I would win."

Brian Winters, RHA's director of public relations and advertising, said there were problems with the group's logo.

"Our current logo is difficult to reproduce," Winters said. "It is not as effective in displaying the organization's name as we would like it to be."

Like the former logo, the new logo has a circular shape. In the foreground, the new logo has the letters "RHA" in bold on a brick background. The words "Residence Halls Association" are written within the double circular border.

The old logo has "Michigan State University" on the top, outside half of the single circular border, with "Residence Halls Association" along the bottom. Within the circle is a gothic-style building surrounded by trees.
