Field hockey wraps up season with victory

The No. 5 MSU field hockey team closed out the regular season with a 5-1 victory over Ohio State on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Michelle Carstens netted the first goal in the 12th minute and Junior back Alexandra Kyser netted the second in the 19th minute to give MSU a quick 2-0 lead. Following a Buckeye goal, the Spartans reeled off the last three, compliments of sophomore midfielder Annebet Beerman, freshman forward Michelle Huynh-Ba and senior midfielder Cynthia Martin.

With the win, MSU finished the regular season with an 18-2 mark overall and a 5-1 record in conference play.

Next up for the Spartans is the Big Ten Tournament. The second-seeded MSU will take on the seventh-seeded Northwestern at 10 a.m. on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.
