Womens soccer beats down No. 20 Purdue

October 15, 2002

The Spartans improved their record to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten this weekend after downing No. 20 Purdue on the road 2-1.

Sophomore midfielder Abby Shepherd put MSU up by one midway through the first half. Neither team scored again until the Boilermakers (9-3-1 overall, 4-2-1 Big Ten) knotted the game with just six minutes before the end of regulation.

Junior defender Andrea Sied saved the game from overtime with just more than a minute left to play when she found the back of the net on a penalty kick, propelling the Spartans to victory.

MSU travels to Northwestern next for a 5 p.m. Friday game against the Wildcats (4-7-2, 2-5-1).
