Womens golf takes 8th in tournament

The MSU women’s golf team took eighth after posting a 313 on Sunday’s final round of play at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate Championship.

Its three-round total of 930 (304-313-313) was 31 strokes behind Auburn, who dominated the last day of play with a 292, and took home the win.

Junior Sarah Martin led the Spartan attack with a final score of 229, tied for 13th. Heading into the final round Martin was seating in the 20th position.

Junior Allison Fouch and senior Jessica Till finished in a four-way tie for 28th. Freshman Dayna Burleigh, 37th place, and redshirt freshman Christy Jonkhoff, 77th place, rounded out the Spartan squad.

This was the final fall season event for MSU. The women return to action Feb. 10-12 at the TRW Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
