Events:

• The Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered and Straight Ally Students presents the “Fire” tour featuring Magdalen Hsu-Li, acclaimed music artist, poet and educator, who will be performing at 9 p.m. today in the Union Ballroom. The event will feature piano, guitar, vocals, drum set duos, four piece band arrangements, poetry readings with some comedic standup and percussion and drum improvisations. • The University Activities Board will kick off its Homecoming week activities with “Homecoming Hayrides and History: A MSU Historical Tour” at 6 p.m. Monday. The 30-minute tours will leave from the International Center parking lot and ride through campus while highlighting MSU’s history. For more information visit www.uabevents.com.

• The Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered and Straight Ally Students will host its annual dance “The Rainbow Party” at 9 p.m. Friday in the Union Ballroom. The dance is the culminating event in the National Coming Out Days celebration. All open-minded people are welcome and costumes are optional. • The Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered and Straight Ally Students will have an all-day drag day across campus Thursday. The day will support diversity and help to break down gender barriers. For more information contact Erik Green at (517)353-9795.

• The MSU Marketing Association will be volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lansing from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on 1235 Center St. in Lansing. Events planned include bobbing for apples, carving pumpkins, playing games and other fun activities. For more information contact Valerie Hazergian at (517) 332-8092.

Music:

• The MSU School of Music will host Music for Tuba by MSU composers at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Music Building Auditorium. The event will feature the premiere of “Piece Heroique” by MSU composer Jere Hutcheson, which is a heroic, bold work for tuba and piano. Lectures:

• The MSU Center for Ethics and Humanities will host a brown-bag presentation of “Ethics & History of Development and Health Care in Costa Rica” at noon today in C-102 Fee Hall. The presentation is part a semester-long series. For more information visit www.bioethics.msu.edu.

• The Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered and Straight Ally Students will host a lecture discussion on “Redefinition of Identity” led by Magdalen Hsu-Li, famed music artist, poet and educator. The event will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Union Multicultural Center. The discussion will focus on the past, present and future of Asian and LBGT women in the arts. • The Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered and Straight Ally Students will hold general LBGT ally training at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Wilson Hall Essex Room.
