Palestinian debate to be held by students

A proposal supporting Palestinian rights and a U.N. resolution is causing a stir among the student body of the MSU-Detroit College of Law that is culminating in a debate at 9:30 p.m. today in the Castle board room of the DCL building.

Daniel Andoni, second-year law student, said the proposal he sponsored recognizes “every Palestinian refugee has the right to return or receive compensation for their land.”

He said it mirrors U.N. resolution 194 - which was passed by the General Assembly in 1948.

“I think the Student Bar Association should be more concerned with social justice issues,” Andoni said.

Nick Ayoub, a senator on the association’s board, said it’s a good idea for student governments to look into such issues, take a stand and pass a resolution if they feel strongly.

“I’m going to listen to the debate tomorrow and make a decision,” Ayoub said.
