Since the Spartans debacle in Iowa City on Oct. 12, my opinion@statenews.com mailbox has been overflowing with letters to the editor calling for his job.
I had more than a dozen letters in my in-box on the Sunday following the Spartans 44-16 loss to the Hawkeyes. And more angry fans chimed in though the week.
The only difference this week is quantity. On Sunday, I had to wade through more than 20 letters calling for Williams to be canned. And, yes, more have followed.
I could count the number of people who have chimed in on other topics using my fingers. Some of those writers have expressed disinterest in the Williams rantings and want other things to read about. One of these writers even said I should be fired for running so many letters filled with Spartan fans displeasure for Williams leadership abilities.
Nonetheless, I publish what writers supply. If its Williams they want, then its Williams they get.
Unless the tide begins to turn, it might very well be this way until the end of the season. I cant help it.
Please, dont shoot the messenger.
Oh, and please, fire Williams.
