Countdown to Midnight Mania just hours away

October 11, 2002

The men’s and women’s basketball teams will be unveiled to the general public during Midnight Mania tonight at Breslin Center. Admission is free and doors open at 10:30 p.m.

Each year, the event is has a different theme. This year’s theme is “Let the Music Play.”

Players and coaches from both teams will be available to sign autographs.

Both teams will compete in an intra-squad scrimmage shortly after midnight.

October 12 marks the official start of preseason practice.

There also will be a banner for fans to sign, which is planned to be displayed at Breslin Center. Head coach Tom Izzo said the banner is designed to show fans the team appreciates their support and expects them represent MSU well.

“It’s not a contract,” he said. “It’s just something that we’re going to hang there so every time they want to leave early, they know they’re being held to a standard, too. And that’s an elite standard.”

Freshman guard Maurice Ager said he’s ready to take the court tonight for Midnight Mania.

“I’ve been to a few before I got here,” he said.

“It should be a lot of fun. I know that’s something I would’ve liked to be apart of. It’s heavy anticipation and we’re just ready to roll.”
