The State News Board of Directors elects five members, two incumbents

Five new members and two incumbents were elected to fill seven open positions on the State New’s Board of Directors on Friday.

The 12-member board is comprised of three professional positions, three faculty or staff positions and six student positions.

Dick Milliman was elected to the professional seat vacancy. Milliman previously served on the board and owns several small newspapers in Michigan.

James Spaniolo, the College of Communication Arts and Sciences dean, was elected to a two-year faculty and staff position.

Incumbent board member and journalism Professor Dan Shaver was re-elected to another faculty and staff position.

Current board treasurer and graduate student John Hicks will remain in a one-year term, which was vacated by a graduate.

The board also elected three students to two-year positions, including Caleb Marker, ASMSU internal vice chairperson of Academic Assembly, history sophomore Laura Killips and psychology senior Jennifer Trendt.

All of the students are active in various organizations.

The board approves the more than $2 million State News budget, which includes the $5 tax paid by students each semester.
