Student group to hold first meeting to plan cultural events

The Coalition of Indian Undergraduate Students is holding its first meeting of the year at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson Hall Kiva.

General membership meetings will continue every other Thursday.

The group is hoping to expand the current community of more than 300 members, said Arun Prasad, the group’s publicity chairman.

“It’s an Indian organization, but we want more American students and students of other cultures to come out,” he said.

The group also wants to keep the public informed about Indian culture, he said.

“Our goal as an organization is to enlighten students,” Prasad said. “To enlighten them about Indian holidays and traditions.”

The coalition hosts various cultural events and social nights throughout the year, including a show called “Satrang.”

Last year, the show sold out Wharton Center and will be moved to Breslin Center this year.

“We want to make sure we’re still filling up the seats,” Prasad said.
