Spartans drop second game of Big Ten play

The women’s soccer team lost its first Big Ten game of the season Sunday - a 3-1 decision at Wisconsin. The loss was MSU’s first in two weeks.

The Spartans (7-2 overall, 3-1 Big Ten) fell behind midway through the first half and couldn’t rally to beat the Badgers (4-5-2, 1-2-1). Wisconsin got two goals in six minutes in the first half and then upped its lead to 3-0 on midfielder Jenny Kundert’s second goal of the game in the 51st minute. Coming into the game, MSU had only allowed one goal in eight games this season.

MSU’s lone tally Sunday came seconds after Kundert’s second goal when freshman midfielder Erin Konheim scored on an assist from senior midfielder Heidi Lutz.

Earlier in the weekend, MSU beat Minnesota 1-0 on a goal by junior forward Tiffany Laskowski in the 72nd minute. Junior midfielder Trisha Kenny and freshman defender Nina Mastracci assisted on the play.

Junior goalkeeper Stacy Heller only had to make one save against the Golden Gophers (6-4, 1-3) on Friday to post her fifth shutout of the season.
