Registration starts for Homecoming Parade

Spartan pride will be lining the streets of East Lansing in the form of the 2002 Homecoming Parade.

The MSU Alumni Association, in collaboration with the MSU Homecoming Committee, will launch Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 14-19. The parade will be held 6 p.m. on Oct. 18.

Participants in the parade include the Spartan Marching Band, local high school bands, MSU cheerleaders and about 150 parade units designed by MSU students.

The parade will travel on a route going south on Abbott Road, east on Grand River Avenue and south on Bogue Street.

This year’s theme is “Going for the Gold.” Special guests at the parade include Homecoming Parade grand marshal and 1970 MSU graduate Lloyd Ward, CEO of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Helping celebrate the theme of “Going for the Gold” are past Spartan Olympians and Olympic coaches. MSU President M. Peter McPherson and his wife Joanne McPherson will lead the parade.

The parade will culminate in a pep rally, including fireworks and a concert for students at the IM Sports-East.

The deadline for registering for the parade is 5 p.m. Oct. 4. Anyone interested can pick up an application at www.homecoming.msu.edu. or pick up an application in room 108 in the Union.
