Students welcomed to E.L. with music, movies and flea market

August 27, 2002

There are a variety of East Lansing events occurring in September that are aimed at MSU students.

Sept. 6 is Friday Night DJ featuring G. Cerveny and Eric Newton from 7:30-11 p.m. in Fountain Square on the northeast corner of M.A.C. and Albert avenues in East Lansing.

At 9 p.m. Sept. 20, the Parking Ramp Picture Show features “The Others” on the top of the Division Street Parking Ramp on the corner of Division Street and Albert Avenue.

The show continues at 9 p.m. on Sept. 27 with “The Royal Tenenbaums,” followed by “Road Trip” at 11 p.m.

A Capital Area Transit Authority bus will run until 2 a.m. from Olin Health Center to the ramp and concessions will be available. Participants should bring chairs or blankets.

Kelcey Anderson, community events specialist for the city, said these free Friday events and the East Lansing Flea Market are aimed at the student population.

The flea market is from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 on the corner of Albert Avenue and Charles Street. There are more than 30 booths in the market featuring books, CDs, pottery, dog toys, lamps, clothes, watercolor paintings, antiques, glassware and flower arrangements.

“We have the flea market at this time of the year because of the students moving in,” Anderson said. “This way they can come down and get furniture, decorations and other things for their dorms and apartments.”

Space is still available for $5 a booth, and there will be free parking throughout downtown East Lansing.
