Impounds lousy, action infuriating

I am one of many students who does not have an easy time paying the monthly expenses that come along with going to MSU. With the cost of tuition, any expense can be an inconvenience.

I felt as though some benefits also should come with that cost. MSU is not a convenient school for driving, so I, as many students do, ride my bike to class very often. I was unaware of an ordinance that required bikes to be registered on campus. The ordinance is easy to overlook, since bike racks are not as clearly marked as no-parking zones or parking lots where permits are required.

I was shocked, then, to find my bike missing - as I’m sure many other students were as well - when I left class on the morning of May 28. I was in class no more than two and a half hours. It turned out that my bike had been impounded, with no notice left.

I would have had no problem paying the $2 fee to get my bike registered, had I known of the requirement. Instead, I will end up paying a total of about $40 for this event. This cost will include my registration, impound fees and a new lock, as it was cut when my bike was taken.
