Hospital hosts golf clinic to aid rehabilitation

Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital’s Golf Clinic will tee off June 11 to July 25.

Anyone with a physical disability and an interest in learning to play golf or improve their game is welcome.

The event will be from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Forest Akers East Golf Course, located at Mount Hope Road and South Harrison Avenue.

“This program enables individuals to participate from a wheelchair in the sitting position, it teaches them new techniques if they have to use a walker or have back problems,” said Brandy Munger, Sparrow Hospital therapeutic recreational specialist. “It gets them back out on the golf course.”

Brief presentations by John Chapin, an adaptive equipment and club design specialist and adaptive golf instructor Bob Grondsma will be showcased June 11.

Ken Horvath, MSU director of golf, also will be on hand along with members of his professional staff.
