Students seek help for organ donations

April 16, 2002

About 20 students from MSU’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America are holding a campaign to increase awareness of organ donation.

Group members hope to encourage students and community members to talk to their friends and families about organ donation. To help people discuss it, the group is holding an informational session Wednesday at Wells Hall.

Speakers and the student group’s staff will answer questions during the session, which begins at 11:30 a.m.

Erika Crowell, president of MSU’s chapter, said although someone might sign up to be an organ donor, it is helpful to family members to discuss the commitment.

“The purpose is to encourage people to talk about organ donation so if the time comes when something disastrous happens, the family knows that the member really wants to donate,” said Crowell, a communication senior. “We hope to make MSU students realize how important organ donation is. Even though we’re young, we’re not invincible and it is possible to save someone’s life.”

The group is working with the Office of the Secretary of State and the Gift of Life program.
