Rogers to be named Playboy All-American

April 22, 2002

Spartan receiver Charles Rogers will become part of an elite class of athletes when he is pictured in the October 2002 issue of Playboy Magazine.

Rogers will not be baring all, he will join 25 others as members of the 2002 Preseason Playboy All-American team.

Gil Brandt, an analyst for NFL.com said Thursday that Rogers would be part of the 2002 Playboy All-American team.

“He’s a great player and can he return kicks,” Brandt said.

Brandt has helped Gary Cole, photography director and sports editor of Playboy Magazine, select the team in the past.

Last season, Rogers caught 67 passes for 1,470 yards in 12 games. He also returned one punt for a touchdown.

The sophomore was named offensive Most Valuable Player of the Silicon Valley Football Classic in San Jose, Calif., where he hauled in 12 passes for 270 yards.

Rogers broke the previous single-game Spartan record of 255 yards receiving set by Plaxico Burress against Michigan, Oct. 9, 1999.

MSU athletics spokesman John Lewandowski said that Rogers was nominated for the team, but didn’t confirm Rogers’ selection.

Rogers is the third All-America selection for MSU in the last five seasons. In 1997 offensive lineman Flozell Adams was selected and last season junior running back T.J. Duckett was selected.

Defensive tackle Tony Mandarich also was also a preseason selection in 1988.
