Learning center for nursing students to open

April 23, 2002

The first floor of the Life Sciences Building will be dedicated as the Janice Thompson Granger Learning Center for nursing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Tours of the building will begin at 4:30 p.m. The newly renovated floor was paid for by Alton and Janice Granger, owners of the Lansing-based Granger Construction Company.

Marilyn Rothert, dean of the College of Nursing, said the learning center will provide an exciting opportunity for nursing students.

The learning center includes nursing practice labs, testing areas, media labs, videotape labs and classrooms.

“It enables the students to gain the skills and knowledge they need for the practice of nursing with the complexity of health care requirements these days,” she said. “The care of patients, it is very important that they be as well prepared as possible to take care for patients and provide the high quality of care that they need.

“For many years, this has been something we wanted to do because we felt we could put together a center that would make a difference for the students and their environment.”
