Tower Guard 5K run, walk, roll for disability center opens Saturday

March 15, 2002

The second annual Tower Guard Shamrock 5K Run, Walk and Roll will be on campus Saturday morning.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. outside Bessey Hall’s main entrance. The run begins at 10 a.m. There is a $15 registration fee for the run, which includes a Shamrock 5K T-shirt.

The Tower Guard is a service organization for sophomore honor students. The course of the run will be along the Red Cedar River, beginning and ending at Bessey Hall.

All proceeds of the run go toward the MSU Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. The first Run, Walk and Roll brought in more than $3,000 for the center.

Virginia Martz, a specialist at the center, said last year’s money went to MSU’s Persons with Disabilities Empowerment Fund. The fund provides money for areas within the center including the reading and technology programs.

“The Tower Guard does a wonderful job to help those who are blind and visually impaired and those with learning disabilities,” she said. “It’s wonderful way to support a program.”
