Rentals will fill empty hours

March 1, 2002

Well, if you’re like me and you work somewhere where you get paid jack, (I love my job, boss!) you’re not going anywhere for spring break. What’s left? Raiding mom and dad’s fridge back home and watching television. Or, maybe... dum, dum, dum... movies.

Here’s a few suggestions for quality vacation flicks. Watch ’em, don’t watch ’em. Whatever. I’m on vacation now, too.

“Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise,” a sequel to the original that places our heroes in a tropical wonderland. Bikinis and pocket protectors go together like peanut butter and jelly. Or something like that.

“The Beach,” say what you will about this movie, I think it’s cool and I’m the one with the job as a critic, so ha, ha. Plenty of fun in the sun and man’s dilemma of separation through conformity. Deep, huh?

“The Ten Commandments,” what’s better to take your mind off being in cold ol’ Michigan while your friends are partying in Aruba? Watching people suffer in the desert. You’ll be glad you’re still in a sweater. Plus, Charlton Heston before he went gun-crazy and a great performance by Yul Brynner. Waste more than three hours full of great quotes like “So let it be written, so let it be done,” or “Let my people go!” You won’t even miss huge daiquiris or hot sex with beautiful strangers. Wait a second...
