With only three castaways remaining in this weeks Case Hall Castaways competition, the remaining students must find a way to survive one last day locked in a small hall-government office.
After enduring cold nights, no showers and cross-dressing, international relations junior Melissa Mattingly, English junior Erika Wagner and political theory and constitutional democracy senior Lori Stone were voted out of the 12-by-12 room by Thursday afternoon. An additional contestant was scheduled to be voted out Thursday night.
The contestants are participating in the Survivor takeoff to compete for $350. They are allowed out of the room only for academics, bathroom use, meals and religious observances. The competition concludes at 12:45 p.m. today in the Case Hall second floor lounge after the five castaways will vote to decide the winner.
Stone said she didnt use the time away from televisions and computers to focus on her classes like shed planned to.
This is a procrastinators dream, a procrastinators holiday, she said.
James Madison freshman Derek Wallbank said the contest is gaining popularity.
Its been incredible. Our response from the people in Case has been amazing, he said. People have been talking about it a lot, and weve had 15 people an hour stop by here. We have a loyal fan base that show up at tribal council.
James Madison freshman Adam Glatz, said one of the biggest adjustments he has made is going outside.
Its weird to not have a window, he said. I walked out today to go to class and the sun was shining, it was beautiful outside. It felt very weird to be outside.
When were are all in this room, it is pretty dispersed. It doesnt seem like anyone is pairing off at all. We have been coming up with a lot of creative things to do.
