Jeffery Howenstine was found not guilty of three counts of criminal sexual conduct in Ingham County Circuit Court Monday. The 44-year-old former band teacher at Otto Middle School, 500 E. Thomas St. in Lansing, was charged last February of having a student perform oral sex on him three times during the summer and fall of 2000.The charges carried a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison each. The jury deliberated for three hours before clearing Howenstine.“I’m disappointed with the outcome,” said Rolland Sizemore, assistant prosecuting attorney for Washtenaw County, which took the case because Howenstine’s wife works for the state police in Ingham County. “But I’m satisfied that everything we could have done within reason was done.”• A male student reported items stolen from and damage to his 1999 Jeep Cherokee on Tuesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.More than 100 CDs and a disc changer were stolen, and the loss is valued at $4,700. The rear window was also smashed and the radio panel damaged for a total loss of $200. Police have no suspects.
