Mens tennis falls in Big Ten openers

The No. 60 men’s tennis team opened its Big Ten season with two defeats this weekend.

The Spartans (7-4 overall, 0-2 Big Ten) opened with a 4-3 loss to No. 50 Northwestern Saturday and fell 7-0 again to No. 2 Illinois on Sunday.

MSU lost its third consecutive Big Ten opener, with the last victory coming in 1999.

The No. 75 women’s tennis team (6-3, 0-1) fell to No. 34 Illinois in it’s Big Ten season opener. The loss snapped the teams’ three game winning streak.

Junior Asa Lidén, ranked third in the nation, won her eighth straight singles match with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kate Boomershine.
