Thornhill makes conference team

December 5, 2001

MSU senior linebacker Josh Thornhill was the only Spartan named to the All-Big Ten first team by coaches and the media.

Thornhill finished the Spartans’ regular season with a team high 124 tackles, which ranked fourth in the conference.

Two other seniors, tight end Chris Baker and defensive tackle Josh Shaw, were also recognized for their efforts.

Baker was a unanimous selection for the conference’s second team and Shaw was listed by the coaches as a second team selection as well.

Junior tailback T.J. Duckett and sophomore receiver Charles Rogers were both named to the media’s second team.

Spartans that earned honorable mentions were senior receiver Herb Haygood, senior punter Craig Jarrett, junior defensive back Broderick Nelson and junior safety Thomas Wright.

Indiana quarterback Antwaan Randle El and Michigan linebacker Larry Foote were picked by the coaches and media as the Big Ten’s offensive and defensive players of the year.
