Coat drive continues to bring warmth to area

December 3, 2001

A coat drive sponsored by the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety and North Complex Black Caucus will continue until Dec. 12.

Students, faculty and staff can drop off winter coats of any size in the decorated bins at Mason, Abbot, Snyder and Phillips halls.

More than 1,000 coats were collected since the first drive two years ago. Organizers hope to receive at least 400 coats this year.

The coats will be cleaned and donated to the Lansing City Rescue Mission, the Cristo Rey Community Center, MSU Safe Place and the University Apartments Give and Take Center.

“People don’t realize how giving students are and how much they do care about individuals who are less fortunate than they are,” said MSU police Officer Khalil Wasson, who helped organize the drive. “We’re just doing what we can as a police department and student body to help out.”
