Marathon of Majors aims to help U solidify future, find career

November 15, 2001

Marathon of Majors is set up to help students still seeking purpose in their college career.

Representatives from 19 MSU colleges will be on hand from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in the first floor hallway of Bessey Hall to provide guidance to students who aren’t sure about a major.

Representatives will be armed with pamphlets and answers to students’ questions. Topics covered include choosing a major, academic requirements and internships and career opportunities.

The Office of Student Academic Affairs of the Undergraduate University Division, which is responsible for advising freshmen and sophomores, is sponsoring the event.

Eyad Batayeh, an adviser for the Undergraduate University Division, said college representatives will be joined by academic support units such as the Office of Study Abroad, the Career Development Center, the Service-Learning Center, the Counseling Center and the Learning Resource Center.

“We target no-preference students still looking for a major,” Batayeh said.

“This is a way for students to do one-stop shopping for a major.”

Students unable to attend today’s event have another chance at the next Marathon of Majors, scheduled for March.
