Immigration policy topic of forum today

November 16, 2001

As part of International Education Week, Peter Briggs, director of the Office of International Students and Scholars, will lead a discussion about changing immigration policies in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

“Keeping Up with the Rumors: What is Going On with U.S. Immigration Policies?” will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Erikson Hall Kiva.

Briggs said the session will be an opportunity for international students to voice their concerns regarding recent issues about obtaining visas to study in the United States.

“I’d like to hear from them as kind of an open session,” he said. “It’s a chance for them to talk to us about what they’re worried about immigration-wise.”

The forum will be focused on international students, but is open for anyone to attend, Briggs said.

“In terms of the values of international students, I think there’s a lot of stuff up in the air right now and we need to talk together and make sure they have our support,” he said.
