DCL looks to expand study abroad to Mexico

November 9, 2001

The MSU-Detroit College of Law has created a new study abroad program.

The program, “Study Abroad in Mexico,” has not yet been approved by the American Bar Association. But Kevin Kennedy, director of the program, said he is sure it will happen soon.

“We’re doing this to cement the relationships with Panamerican University and with the University of Ottawa,” he said.

“Internationalizing MSU’s name is never a bad thing.”

The program will be in Guadalajara, Mexico from May 26 to June 15 next spring and is open to all law students in the United States.

Students can earn up to four semester credits for participating in all three weeks of the program.

DCL’s program is not affiliated with the Office of Study Abroad, Kennedy said.

Kennedy said the classes will deal with the North American Free Trade Agreement and the program is designed to focus on the economic relationship between the United States and Mexico.

Eventually, Kennedy said, the goal is to have the Mexican students study at MSU and at the University of Ottawa while MSU students are in Mexico.
