Professional developer set to address students on exhibit development

October 4, 2001

Eugene Dillenburg, an exhibit developer with the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul, will be speaking to a group of students and area museum professionals today.

The event, “Perspectives of an Exhibit Developer,” will consist of a talk given by Dillenburg about the exhibit-development process and standards developed by the National Association for Museum Exhibition. Dillenburg will also present a series of photos which he feels meet the standards of the association.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 118 Berkey Hall.

Dillenburg said there is one message he would like to get across during his time on campus.

“It’s not an easy job. It’s not just sticking a label on something and calling it an exhibit,” he said. “It’s much more than that.”

The Museum Studies Program, which is sponsoring the event, is a specialization offered to students that consists of five courses aimed at preparing students for employment in such fields as historic preservation, folklife studies and museum work.

Kris Morrissey, curator of education and interpretation for the MSU Museum, said the purpose of the function is to provide an opportunity to learn more about museum exhibits.

“We’re having it to educate the students and to bring the museum community closer together,” she said. “It will give us a chance to share professional ideas.”
