Take a peek behind the curtain and test drive the NEW StateNews.com today!

Newspaper missed softball coverage

First thing I did when I got last Monday’s issue of The State News was go through the entire sports section, desperately looking for a story or even a mention of the two amazing victories the MSU softball team achieved Oct. 7 at Old College Field against Detroit and Wayne State.

There had been no mention of its participation in the Elk Rapids Tournament on Sept. 22-23 or against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 30, so I don’t know what I was thinking.

I’m a fan of a lot of sports, not just basketball, hockey and football, so I want to hear about all the games Spartan teams participate in, not just the “important” ones. I take great pride in calling myself a Spartan, and I know there are other Spartans who feel the same way I do.

For all those who are interested in knowing, MSU crushed Detroit, 9-1, and Wayne State, 9-3. I wouldn’t have known this awesome team existed if one of my close friends didn’t play first base on the team. These were the last games for the fall season and its next home game is March 29 against Ohio State.

Let’s acknowledge what all Spartan athletics encompass, not just the ones that make national headlines.
