Beerman named leagues offensive player of the week

October 24, 2001

Annebet Beerman, freshman midfielder for the MSU women’s field hockey team, earned Big Ten field hockey Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance in Saturday’s game against No. 10 Ohio State.

The win over OSU put the No. 6 Spartans in a tie with the Buckeyes in the Big Ten standings.

Beerman scored two goals and had an assist in the game, including the game-winner in the 2-1 victory. She also hit the net in the 3-1 win against Ball State on Oct. 17.

The Netherlands native is the fourth Spartan to earn the honor of Big Ten player of the week this season. This is the most MSU players to receive the honor in one season.

The Spartans next game is at 3 p.m. Friday in Iowa City, Iowa. If they win, they will clench a share of the conference title.
