Wolfe to travel to U.K.; Roberson picks Gators

July 5, 2001
Sophomore forward Adam Wolfe was named to the Big Ten Basketball Foreign Tour team this week.

MSU sophomore forward Adam Wolfe has been selected to participate with the Big Ten’s Basketball Foreign Tour team. The 6-foot-9 Westerville, Ohio, native is one of twelve Big Ten players on the team.

The tour runs from Aug. 8-19 and includes six games in England and Ireland. Last season, Wolfe saw action in 23 games and averaged 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.

Indiana head coach Mike Davis will coach the team, which includes other notable Big Ten players such as Hoosier guard Kyle Hornsby, Iowa forward Duez Henderson, Michigan guard Gavin Groninger and Northwestern forward Tavaras Hardy.

In other men’s basketball news, the Spartans lost a coveted recruit to Florida.

Saginaw High School point guard Anthony Roberson verbally committed to play for head coach Billy Donovan’s Gators on Monday, according to the Lansing State Journal.

Attempts to reach Roberson on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

The Spartans have been recruiting Roberson since he started high school and apparently were still in the running, along with Duke, up until the verbal commitment.

Roberson was regarded as one of the top 10 prospects in the country for this recruiting class. He earned All-State honors both as a sophomore and a junior and averaged 25 points and six rebounds a game for Saginaw.

Roberson can’t sign a letter of intent with Florida until November.

Men’s Cross Country

The MSU men’s cross country team signed three runners from Stockbridge to compete next fall.

Warren Krueger, Phil McIellan and Curt Campbell all signed to run for the Spartans.

The threesome guided Stockbridge to a third-place finish in the Division 3 state finals.
