Magic Johnson shaking and baking in pro league

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Magic Johnson had a triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists Saturday in a Summer Pro League game.

Johnson and his traveling all-stars will play an exhibition game against MSU on Nov. 2 at Breslin Student Events Center.

The 41-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers star delivered a no-look pass his first time down the floor for an assist.

“I feel good,” Johnson said. “I was shaking and baking and doing my thing like I normally do.”

Johnson’s team, the Magic Johnson All Stars, had rapper Snoop Dogg on the roster. The rap star scored 10 points and had four fouls in 21 minutes.

Former UCLA star Ed O’Bannon scored 26 points to lead the Young Guns to a 134-130 victory over Johnson’s squad.

Johnson, who led the Lakers to five NBA titles, said he likely won’t play again in the summer league.

“It’s not about whether I would want to, I would love to do it, it’s just my schedule is so crazy,” Johnson said. “I’m running a $200-$300 million company. I’ve got to do what I got to do.”

Johnson, a former MSU standout who led the Spartans to their first NCAA Championship in 1979, retired from the Lakers nearly 10 years ago after testing positive for HIV. He made two comebacks with the Lakers and briefly served as their coach.
