Police briefs 06/25/01

An unknown assailant shot and killed a Lansing woman at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.The victim, Bernita K. White, was walking at Potter Park Zoo, 1301 S. Pennsylvania Ave. in Lansing, with her daughter and friends when she was shot. White was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.Police believe there was one shot from the north area of the park, Lansing police Lt. Ray Hall said. Police have no suspects and are continuing the investigation.

  • The Chemistry Building was broken into last week, MSU police Lt. Kelly Beck said.The theft occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Friday. A two-way radio, valued at $1,800, was taken from an office.The room had been secured and was still secured when the robbery was discovered. Police have no suspects.
  • A 26-year-old female student’s 1994 Ford Explorer was damaged last week.The crime occurred between 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 12:15 a.m. Friday at Lot 91, near Fee Hall. An unknown person keyed a vulgar phrase onto the rear passenger-side door. Damage is estimated at $1,000. There are no suspects.
  • Construction companies working near Lot 89, the commuter lot, reported their office trailers were broken into, Beck said.The theft occurred between 3:30 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday. A pair of walkie-talkies and a 10-inch chain were taken. Losses are estimated at $220 and damages from the forced entry are estimated at $15. Police have no suspects.
  • A Spartan Village resident reported his home was broken into. The 22-year-old male student said about $150 had been removed from his wallet. A Sony PlayStation 2 system, valued at $300, a Sega Dreamcast, valued at $250, and an assortment of games were also taken. The theft occurred between 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 4:10 a.m. Sunday. Police have no suspects.
