Police briefs 03/22/01

Two 20-year-old male students were uninjured after someone put lit firecrackers under their Holden Hall door.A firecracker was slipped under the students’ door at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and a second was put beneath the door about a half hour later. Both exploded, causing minor damage to the room door.“Fireworks in the halls are looked at very seriously by administration,” MSU Detective Tony Willis said. Setting off fireworks in a residence hall is a felony offense.A bottle rocket set off in Holden Hall about five years ago caused a fire and extensive damage in a Holden dorm room, Willis said.An investigation is pending. Police have no suspects.

  • A 23-year-old male student was cited Tuesday for using a counterfeit gate card to exit Lot 79, south of Spartan Stadium.Four students - a 19-year-old female, a 21-year-old female and two 22-year-old males - were ticketed Monday for the misdemeanor offense.Police confiscated the forged gate cards from the students, Willis said. Fines for the offense are set by the 54-B District Court.
  • A 21-year-old male student reported two textbooks stolen from the third floor of the Main Library.The student left the books unattended for about 10 minutes while he was studying at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Willis said. When he returned, the books were gone.The texts are valued at $195. Police have no suspects.
