Police briefs 01/18/01

A female Spartan Village resident reported several items stolen from her car between Monday and Tuesday.The resident was unsure if she had locked the car after parking it near her apartment Monday, MSU police Detective Tony Willis said. A bookbag, purse, CD case with 35 CDs, cellular phone and textbooks were reported missing from the car.The missing items are valued at $1,000.

  • A 21-year-old male student reported an unknown man hit him in the face while walking at 3 a.m. Sunday in Lot 59, near the Physical Plant.The student was approached by a group of five men in the parking lot, Willis said. The student could not identify the men.
  • A large amount of money was reported missing at 9 a.m. Sunday from a concessions safe at the Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education.The manager of the concession stand found the room the safe was in and access to that room locked but the undisclosed amount of money was missing, Willis said.An investigation is ongoing. Police have no suspects.
  • A 24-year-old male student reported the rear window broken out of his car between Saturday and Monday while it was parked in Lot 83, near Service Road, Willis said.Damage is estimated at $400. Police have no suspects.
  • Police found a 3 1/2-inch knife in a Hubbard Hall dorm room when officers responded to a call reporting the smell of marijuana smoke.No marijuana was found upon searching the room, but the knife was found sitting on a desk, Willis said. The knife belonged to a 20-year-old male student.University ordinances prohibit possessing weapons in residence halls.The case has been forwarded to the campus judiciary system.
