Police briefs 01/09/01

Police evacuated the Union computer lab shortly after 8 p.m. Monday after a suspicious box was reported in a basement bathroom.MSU police responded to the scene with an explosive detection canine, and found the call to be a false alarm.“There was some concern because of the president’s visit that it was an explosive device,” MSU police Sgt. Maureen Ramsey said. “There was no indication. We found out it was just a box.”Computer lab users were allowed back into the Union soon after being evacuated.

  • A 19-year-old student returned to campus Monday to find his West Wonders Hall room unlocked and DVD player, speakers, movies and video games missing.The student told police he remembers locking the door and windows when he left for winter break, MSU police Det. Tony Willis said.The stolen items are valued at $1,975. Police have no suspects.
  • A 19-year-old student returned to his Bailey Hall room from winter break to find his computer’s hard drive had been tampered with.Willis said the student believes he knows who may have damaged the computer.An investigation is pending.
