Police briefs 12/08/00

The Mayo Hall assistant manager reported an accidental fire in one of the dorm rooms at approximately 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, MSU police Sgt. Jennifer Brown said.A 19-year-old male student was in a nearby room at the time when he heard the smoke detector and saw smoke coming from under the door. He broke into the room and used a fire extinguisher to put out the embers burning through a garbage bag, she said.Officers have not yet made contact with the resident of the room to complete the investigation. There was no damage to any items in the room.

  • A 23-year-old male student reported his pants, wallet and keys stolen from the pool office at IM Sports-West, Brown said.The student left the items on top of a file cabinet in an unlocked office when he got to work at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. When he returned at around 8 p.m. they were missing.The items were valued at $135. There are no suspects.
