Capital Green, MSUs first and only co-ed a cappella group, is performing today at its largest venue ever: Fairchild Theatre in the Auditorium.
The group is performing along with Ladies First, a female a cappella group.
The 11-member Capital Green is the fourth a cappella group on campus. Most college campuses have anywhere from eight to 14 groups, said interdisciplinary humanities senior Dan Messina, the groups musical director.
Although the group only formed in spring 1999, the members are very familiar with the a cappella scene on campus.
Weve performed at the MSU (Union) Ballroom, the Kellogg Center, and Accapalooza at the Passant Theatre, Messina said.
Capital Green aims for a fun and entertaining style, Messina said.
The groups musical selection ranges from current top 40 to a medley of songs from 1982.
The performers sometimes even venture into the 1960s for Build Me Up Buttercup, a classic hit by the Foundations.
Weve always had great responses, Messina said. The group has great chemistry while performing.
The group isnt just about singing. The audience is an important part of the performance.
Keeping people clapping, bobbing their heads, tapping their toes and laughing are all key aspects of a Capital Green show.
The group tries to have a funny introduction to each song to loosen up the audience, Messina said.
The members each bring something different to the table.
Zoology sophomore Angela Brabant joined the group this year to continue her musical involvement.
This performance is a big deal, Brabant said. But I look at it as doing what we always do just with a bigger draw.
The show starts at 8 tonight in the Fairchild Theatre. Tickets are $5 for students and $6 for the general public.
