Gallery hosts variety of writers, artists, musicians

October 6, 2000

The Creole Gallery wants to give you choices.

The gallery presents “Multiple Choices,” from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. today. The gallery is at 1218 Turner St. in Old Town Lansing.

The show mixes written, musical and visual art. At least 10 local artists are involved in the event.

Keeping with the theme, ticket prices are $5, $3, a donation or simply paying attention.

“We decided to kind of have multiple choices for people,” said Erica Crosley, a poet and co-coordinator of the show.

Crosley, along with novelist Peggy Coe, coordinated the show as a forum for local artists “to add some artistic firepower to the community,” Crosley said.

Besides acting as mistress of ceremonies, Crosley will read some of her work. “I haven’t given a reading personally in a long time,” she said.

Coe and former MSU Professor Hugh Fox will join Crosley in the reading portion.

The show will feature four musical acts, including guitarist Larry Neuhardt and singer Duwayne Brayton.

The pair has been playing acoustic folk-rock together for a long time, Neuhardt said. However, this is the first show together in about four years, he said.

Matt King, Joe McSweeney and Billy Mitchell will also perform.

In addition to his music, some of Neuhardt’s artwork will be displayed.

Neuhardt said he is excited to be a part of the Old Town scene. “I’ve always been a part of Old Town,” he said.

The work of Marty Koenig, Rick Norton and Brenda Pendle will also be on display.

Audience members can get a lot from the show, Crosley said. “People that are involved in the show have something to say, something to share,” she said.
