Soccer team works to regain momentum after losses

The team looked to be off to a good start as the preseason drew to a close, defeating Duke 1-0 and tying Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne, 1-1. But those two MSU preseason goals are the last they’ve managed.

New Hampshire defeats men's soccer with late tally

The final day of the MSU men’s soccer team’s (0-1-1) season-opening weekend kicked off with an MSU women’s soccer (3-1-0) game versus Cal State Fullerton. The women kept the game scoreless until halfway through the second half, when Cal State Fullerton netted one, finishing the game 1-0. Shortly after, the men took the field against the New Hampshire Wildcats (1-1-0), or UNH, meeting a similar fate as their female counterparts.

Women's soccer defeats Fordham despite poor effort

Even in returning a talent-heavy roster, there were doubts facing MSU women’s soccer coach Tom Saxton headed into the 2012 season. As is the case of any head coach who is forced to replace 11 players from a single team, there will be questions. And for Saxton, the questions are fairly obvious.

Soccer team falls short to Indiana

The MSU men’s soccer team saw its season come to an end Wednesday with a 2-1 loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament in the quarterfinals. The Spartans fell behind 2-0 in the first 47 minutes before netting a goal in the 81st minute. The Hoosiers netted the first goal in the 38th minute with a shot from about 22 yards out.

MSU unfairly excluded from tournament

It would be easy to feel disappointment about the way the season ended for MSU women’s soccer team. Sixty-four teams had their tickets punched for the NCAA Tournament, and even after one of the great seasons in program history, the “Spartans are on the outside looking in.

Clark earns weekly Big Ten honor

MSU men’s soccer team senior goalie Jeremy Clark was named Big Ten Defensive Co-Player of the Week by the conference. Ohio State goalie Matt Lampson shares the award with Clark. Clark made three saves in a 2-1 victory against Western Michigan on Wednesday in preparation for Sunday’s matchup with Michigan. The goalie made nine saves for the shutout against the Wolverines, including a five-shot flurry in the final five minutes of the game. Clark is second in the Big Ten with a .804 save percentage on the season.
