The volleyball team will say goodbye to one of its cornerstones after the season. After 10 years with MSU, associate head coach Russ Carney announced he will retire at the conclusion of the season, effective at the end of the 2014 calendar year.
The volleyball team closed its regular season on a five game winning streak. MSU (18-13 overall, 11-9 Big Ten) defeated Iowa (14-17 overall, 6-14 Big Ten) in straight sets.
The volleyball team saved its best performance for the last home game of the regular season. MSU (17-13 overall, 10-9 Big Ten) swept No. 19 Purdue (22-9 overall, 12-7 Big Ten), 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) on senior night at Jenison Field House.
The ups and downs of the volleyball team’s roller coaster season has provided a silver lining — growth. “You learn, you get shut down, you have to come back, you have to pick yourself up,” head coach Cathy George said.
