Coming off the first loss of the season, there was uncertainty how Michigan State would respond. Would MSU take the loss as a reality check and come out more prepared and more determined to win? Or would MSU limp its way through another lousy performance? The former came to be true, as Michigan State steamrolled Maryland, 40-21 on Saturday’s frigid East Lansing evening.
There is not much that needs to be said to demonstrate how big of a game Saturday’s matinee is at Ohio State.
The Spartans took care of business last Saturday, defeating Maryland 40-21 at Spartan Stadium. All of the teams previously ranked ahead of MSU won, resulting in minimal shuffling at the top of the College Football Playoff Rankings including Michigan State, remaining at the No. 7 slot.

Michigan State football rebounded well against Maryland, coming off the field Saturday night with a ninth victory under their belt. The Spartans have two games left in the regular season and need to keep it locked in in order to find themselves that long-awaited postseason action.
“It’s a play,” Michigan State Head Coach Mel Tucker said after MSU defeated Rutgers last month. “It's like running inside zone or outside zone or running counter. It’s another play. If they don’t cover it then it's going to be open.”
