People’s reactions to opposing opinions can be ridiculous — beyond laughable to say the least. You don’t have to look further than Derek Kim’s column on the cons of same-sex marriage to know what I’m talking about. And if you think I’m calling Derek out, you’re horribly mistaken. I’m pointing out some of the comments calling him an “idiot,” saying it’s a shame he will get an MSU degree and saying religion is “for suckers.”

With only about six weeks left in the spring semester at MSU, I realized not only are classes slowly coming to a close, but that I will be moving out of my house for the summer.

When you imagine the stereotypical co-op kid, a few traits might pop into your mind: vegan, Phish lover, dubious standards of hygiene, space case, organic food enthusiast, environmental advocate, pie-the-sky idealist, etc.

This past week has bore witness to a major evolution in the punishment of BP for the oil spill which decimated the gulf region only a few short years ago, giving more leeway to the oil giant than initially decided by our legal system.

Let’s say I went for a walk through MSU’s 5,200-acre campus to visit the residential neighborhoods on a gorgeous summer day - I know it might be hard to imagine what summer is like after this winter, but bear with me.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Spartans. If it’s Monday and you can still read this, congratulations!

Girls and boys are introduced to gender stereotypes at a young age. Girls are encouraged to be prim and proper, dress nice and talk sweetly, whereas boys are encouraged to play with trucks, wrestle and be “tough.”

Flashback to Sunday, Jan. 20. The men’s basketball team was 17-1 and ranked third in the nation. Minus a non-conference loss to North Carolina, the Spartans were perfect, sitting atop the Big Ten, looking invincible. The next month, despite missing star big man Adreian Payne because of a foot injury, the Spartans defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, moving them to 18-1 heading into an epic showdown with arch-rival Michigan on the coming Saturday.

With the warmer weather comes a lot of changes to the campus we call home. Students walking through campus begin to see the snow melting, and out come the new tables set up to request donations for spring charity projects. Yes, those tables outside of Wells Hall asking for students to donate to any given charity will begin sprouting at any moment, and this fact brings about a range of reactions.

On my morning commute to class through the frozen tundra that used to be called East Lansing, I walk past two buildings on the northern edge of campus that could not be more different from one another. To one side of me stands the futuristic Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum known by many for its spaceship-like architecture and on the other side is the eye sore known as the Student Services Building.
