MSU Interim President John Engler will donate his salary back into MSU organizations.
According to reports, Engler chose to waive healthcare and retirement benefits along with donating his annual salary of $510,399.
Engler’s contract with the university, which was signed Monday, according to Crain's Detroit Business, states Engler's salary will go toward qualified university organizations or entities at his discretion.
Engler's spokesperson, John Truscott, told Crain that Engler considers it an honor to work for MSU during “these difficult times.”
Although Engler will serve as interim president for free, he will still have access to benefits such as tickets to all university events and a university-paid vehicle equipped with a chauffeur for university activities, according to his contract, obtained by Crain's Detroit Business.
