The Ingham County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a fatal, one vehicle car crash on eastbound I-96 near Hagadorn Road on Jan. 7, according to a press release from the Ingham County Sheriff's Office.
The eastbound vehicle, carrying a family of four, slid off the road, overturned and struck a tree, killing the 14-year-old girl inside the vehicle.
The driver, who was an Eaton Rapids man, his wife and their 11-year-old daughter survived the accident and were sent to an area hospital. The father and 11-year-old girl reported minor injuries, while the mother is in critical condition. The 14-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports from Sheriff officials, blowing snow caused icy road conditions and allegedly caused the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
