Armed robbery reported on campus Thursday night

Update — Saturday: MSU police identified and arrested a man Friday for his role in the reported armed robbery at East McDonel Hall Thursday night.

MSU police are seeking criminal charges from the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect — who is from Detroit and has no university affiliation — is in custody and will be arraigned this weekend, according to an MSUPD statement. 


Update — Friday: MSUPD Capt. Doug Monette said the case is currently being investigated, with numerous leads being looked into. He said the robbery occurred inside of East McDonel Hall and the victim was a student. Directly after the incident, the suspect took off on foot. Anyone with information is asked to contact to the MSUPD.


MSU police are reporting an armed robbery which occurred at East McDonel Hall at about 9:25 p.m. Thursday night, according to an MSU Alert. 

The suspect is described as a black male, 18 to 24-years-old with a thin build and is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall. 

According to the alert, the suspect displayed a small black pistol during the incident and was last seen heading towards the River Trail.

If nearby, MSU police urge people to use caution and to dial 911 to report any unusual or suspicious activity.
