Volleyball downs Oakland, 3-1

Pushing the series all-time record to 8-0, the MSU volleyball team (7-3) downed Oakland in four sets to keep their series record undefeated. The Spartans’ attack overpowered the Golden Grizzlies and demonstrated their offensive depth.

Volleyball wins seventh-straight MSU Showcase

Taking advantage of its versatile depth and talent, head coach Cathy George and junior outside hitter Jenilee Rathje led the MSU volleyball team through a challenging weekend of success. The Spartans (3-0) continued their play in the MSU Showcase prevailing over IUPUI 3-0 on Saturday and then beating Evansville later that night 3-0.

George earns 450th win in season-opening sweep

In its season-opening match on Friday, the MSU women’s volleyball team towered over the Bowling Green Falcons and helped head coach Cathy George achieve her 450th career win in the process. The Spartans controlled the pace of the match throughout each set and won 3-0 in the opening match of the MSU Showcase.

Volleyball announces 2010 schedule

The MSU volleyball team, which returns 11 letterwinners from its 2009 squad, announced its schedule for the 2010 season Tuesday. Playing a tough schedule, the Spartans will face nine of the 21 teams in last season’s NCAA Tournament and three of the four NCAA Semifinal teams.

MSU's season ends in NCAA tourney

The MSU volleyball team suffered a season-ending loss Friday against No. 13 Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Despite pushing Kentucky to the brink in the first two sets, the Spartans were unable to finish and fell 3-0 in Lexington, Ky. MSU closed the season with a 17-16 record and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
