ASMSU kicked off the second annual Mental Health Awareness Week Monday in the Student Services Center. The week aims to "release the stigma around mental health, educate students on resources available to them, and continue to advocate for increased mental health resources on campus."
"As students, we’re bound to go through things that prevent us from performing at our best. We might be too afraid to reach out to our professors for help during these times. Or we might end up reaching out to our professors only to have our struggles brushed off and be turned away. Either situation hurts."
Data from Michigan State's counseling screening shows that 44% of students reported some degree of suicidal ideation within a two-week period. Through education and awareness, the community can help.
